Dear Writers
We’re excited that you’ve taken your travel experiences and turned them into an awesome story or guide that you want to share with BootsnAll’s monthly 1.5 million visitors.
Before you submit, however, we have a few things to ask of you:
- Spell Check: Please, please spell check your work. This includes the names of locations, pop stars (she spells it Britney Spears, not Brittany, Brittnee, or any other variation) and general good ‘ol English words.
- Follow Rules of English Language: Please follow basic grammatical rules. We’re not talking about split infinitives and incorrect prepositions and other scary-sounding stuff, we’re talking about ending sentences with a period, capitalizing the use of ‘I’ and inserting paragraph breaks.
- Don’t Be A Spammer: You know who you are. If you’re writing an article for us just to promote your ad-filled spammer site, don’t try it. It’s annoying and we don’t like it.
- Look at the Length: People have a limited attention span, and time to read. Stories should not be longer than 2,000 words. Guides should not exceed 3,000 words and should be clearly broken down into separate sections for easy reading.
- Read the Article Out Loud: Read it to yourself. Does it make sense? Will the reader be able to follow your train of thought? Can it be edited differently, or can the use of headers help the flow of the piece?
- Ask Questions: Try to imagine you are someone else reading your piece, or better yet, get a friend to do it. Ask him/her what information could help strengthen your writing. Did you forget directions on how to get to the hotel? Did you skip an event that helps explain what occurs later on in the story? Ask questions to fill in potential gaps.
- Be Link Happy: Use links! If the museum you visited has a website, put it in. If your favorite restaurant has a spot on the web, include it. If possible, please use links for BootsnAll hotels, hostels and other appropriate products that are included in your piece.
- Pay Attention to Your Title: Does your title make sense? Does it interest the reader? Will search engines know what the article is about?
- Don’t Forget About Blogs: If your article doesn’t meet the above qualifications, but you still want it published, then it might be better off on a free BootsnAll Travel Blog. That way, you can still share your writing and travel knowledge with millions of other adventurers like yourself!
Thanks for taking the time to read this - and please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions.
Happy Travels!
