Travel Blogs

Do you want your own TravelBlog?

You’re about to set off on your big trip, and you’ve been thinking that you’d like to keep a sort of journal about what you do, and also have a way to keep in touch with everyone back home. But how? We suggest setting up your own travelblog.

What is a travelblog?
A travelblog is a website that you can update from any cybercafe in the world. You can add your stories and digital photos whenever you want. Send the travelblog address (URL) to family and friends, who will be able to see how you are and what you’re doing, and even leave their own messages and thoughts about what you’ve written.

Why should I get one?
Maybe the better question is, why wouldn’t you get one? Travelblogs are a great way to keep in touch with your friends and family, without having to remember a million e-mail addresses. There’s no awkward, “Hey everyone” to start off a mass e-mail, and you don’t have to spam the ones who don’t want to hear from you every week. Travelblogs are particularly great for RTW travelers. Just keep your site updated and your mother can sleep well at night, knowing you are safe this week, laying out on the white beaches of some tiny island off the Thailand coast.

Best of all, travelblogs are FREE!

I want to blog! Now what?

Now we just need a few more things to get your travelblog started:

  1. Include a title for your travelogue, ’cause that’s awesome.
  2. A short introduction, letting readers know where you’re going, reasons for going (if any), etc.
  3. A bio so we and our readers can learn more about you, your previous travels, etc. This does not have to be a life story (but can be if you want). See some of our other author profiles, or our own staff profiles for examples of not serious…
  4. We also like to include a photo of our authors where possible. It doesn’t have to be a mugshot or serious or anything like that. Again, see our own staff profiles for examples of not serious. The main thing is that readers can put a face to you, the writer.
  5. This is optional, but if you have some time before you leave, you might like to start with a few articles on how you planned this trip. For example, where did you do your research? What books did you read? Have you had any setbacks? Were there any programs or organizations that you went through? Any special visas that you applied for? What are you packing? Things like that.

That’s pretty much it. You can have a look at some of these travel blogs on our site to get a better idea of what we’re talking about. And, of course, if you have any questions or ideas, just drop us an email.

If you’re ready to get cracking, then visit this page and fill out all the necessary details. You’ll be publishing your own website in no time!
